Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine sterile needles at specific points on the body (over 400 points). This process stimulates the movement of energy within the body and allows natural healing to take place. Modern research has shown that when a needle is inserted at specific acupuncture points on the body, there are corresponding changes that occur in the brain.

It is important to figure out the root of the problem, not just where the pain is. Having the right diagnosis allows her to execute an effective treatment plan. All treatments include hands-on manual therapy and are always one-on-one.

POSTURAL ASSESSMENT: Assessing the natural position of our body tells me a lot about the habitual movement patterns of the individual. This gives vital information regarding the biomechanical imbalances that are the root of the problem.

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE (ART) ®ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Small traumas and/overused muscles can create a build-up of scar tissue. This can cause muscles to become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons can cause tendonitis and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness. ART is a hands-on technique that treats the abnormal tissues to remove scar tissue using tension to the specific muscle combined with precise patient movements.

CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS & JOINT MOBILIZATIONS: Loss of range of motion or restriction of movement may be caused by poor joint mechanics. Hands-on or instrument-assisted (*Activator) gentle manipulation or mobilization of the joint can help restore normal, pain-free motion.EXERCISE PRESCRIPTIONExercise is a key component in the healing process. Retraining the body to follow correct movement patterns helps to maintain the effects of the treatments and help your body recalibrate for optimal performance.

Counselling is a form of “talk therapy,” where the client has a safe, non-judgmental, confidential environment to talk about their issues, problems, feelings, intrusive thoughts and all types of challenges. The counsellor is there to guide this journey, helping the client discover the connections between past experiences and present feelings and behaviours.

Counselling can help overcome and cope with depressive and anxious feelings, grief, different types of trauma. It can also help to see clarity in life-changing situations, relationship issues, life transitions. Clients can seek guidance with gender issues, burn-out, bullying and all other challenges in life.

The counselling process can help the client understand the person for who they are and their frame of reference. During the therapeutic process, the client always discovers hidden resources and powers to help them overcome their challenges. Counselling is a very effective therapy in all its forms: individual-, couple- or group therapy.

Some clients might fear it is difficult to talk about feelings and negative thoughts, but counselling is more than that. The counselling process can incorporate different techniques, other than just talking to have an impact on the client, such as drawing, movement, diagrams, analogies or even fantasies.

As a counsellor, I truly believe what Irvin Yalom wrote in one of his books: “Perhaps symptoms are messengers of a meaning and will vanish only when their message is comprehended.” Understanding the messages of our mind and body is essential to a healthy life.

There are times when we face challenges and pressures of life, and we are left wondering how to move forward, towards thriving, instead of “just getting by.”

There are relationships where we feel we are playing games, stuck in a never-ending cycle.

I believe everyone has the strength and resources required to overcome these challenges, and therapy can be the key to unlocking and utilizing them.

My approach is person-centered; I focus on intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics. Every client is unique, and each therapy is an individual journey.

I believe the therapist-client relationship is fundamental to healing, and the therapist’s office should be a safe place for everyone. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and experiences.

On a more personal note:

I love spending time with my three kids and my husband hiking, traveling and just being together (all these activities are pretty noisy). I also love to fly small airplanes and ski. Hey, wellness warrior! My name is Andi, your go-to registered acupuncturist and guiding light, on a mission to blend ancient wisdom with a modern touch. My journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) wasn’t your typical “Eureka!” moment. Nope- it was more like a slow burn in the cubicle of my 9-5, fuelled by my own quest for answers and healing. I began to feel that Western medicine lacked the individual approach I found in TCM, and quickly realized that my growing interest for medicine should not be overlooked. So, armed with curiosity and a desire to help others find their balance too, I gave up the position that would lead me to my dream corporate job and dove headfirst into the world of TCM. With one of three board exams successfully completed, I am well on my way to becoming a board certified Chinese Medicine Doctor.

Here’s the deal: your body? It’s got this incredible innate wisdom to heal itself, and my job is to help educate and empower you to tap into that magic. Consider me your wellness sherpa, guiding you through the peaks and valleys of your health journey with compassion, knowledge, and the magic of TCM. To me, it’s not just about chasing your symptoms—it’s about getting to the root and nurturing the whole package. My view of health is through a holistic lens, which entails relaxing the physical, nurturing the mental, and tending to the soul. When one pillar is affected, the others are thrown off balance. I understand healing happens in waves, and adapt my approach to meet you where you’re at. Together, we will bring awareness to your symptoms (your body’s cues that something is out of balance) and connect the dots between your health concerns to uncover the root cause of your health disturbances. So whether you’re navigating the hustle and bustle of city life or shredding the mountains, I’m here to support you every step of the way to reclaiming your true health.

“Movement is medicine”

Kira was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and moved to Whistler in 2015 being drawn by the mountains, the lifestyle, and the like-minded and active community.

Kira’s interest in physiotherapy developed out of her life-long participation and love for sports and physical activity. From a young age she was constantly on the move with a fascination for how the body works. Her early years were spent in competitive gymnastics and she transitioned to playing ultimate frisbee in high school. She was a member of the Canadian National Ultimate Frisbee Program for 14 years competing at world championships all over the world- from Australia to Latvia and everywhere in between. With participation in sport came injuries and this made her realize the importance of physiotherapy in injury rehabilitation and injury prevention in order to be able to continue to participate and perform at a high level.

Prior to attending physio school at the University of British Columbia, Kira completed her Bachelor’s in Human Kinetics, as well as a Masters of Science with her thesis research focusing on sports injury prevention. Her Masters degree influences her physiotherapy approach as she has a passion for trying to get to the root cause of injuries to prevent recurrence.

Kira’s assessment approach includes thorough postural and movement analysis. Her treatments combine movement retraining and personalized exercise prescription with manual therapy techniques, such as joint mobilizations and IMS, to assist patients in reaching their goals.

Kira has been fortunate to have brought her interests in travel and physiotherapy together with work opportunities overseas. As a physiotherapy student she went on placement in Sri Lanka where she got to work with an interdisciplinary team, and also learn about the philosophies and practices of Ayurvedic medicine and how these could be integrated with Western medicine practices. She also had the opportunity to work in rural New Zealand in early 2021 which again combined her love of travel, physiotherapy, and adventure.

Kira is registered with the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC) and holds additional certifications in functional dry needling, orthopaedic manual therapy, concussion and vestibular management, and the thoracic ring approach.

When not practicing physio, Kira can be found enjoying mountain biking, hiking, trail running, or working on her greenhouse garden in the summer; and snowboarding, skiing, or splitboarding in the winter.

Clinical interests include: post surgical rehabilitation, knee injuries, injury prevention, movement retraining and exercise prescription.”

I am from the UK originally and I went to school in Hertfordshire for 3 years for esthetics and massage. I really fell in love with massage, just the benefit of human touch on someone’s physical and mental well-being.

This took me, at 20 years old, to cruise ships, yachts, BVI’s, and private islands in the Bahamas, where my husband and I lived for 5 years on and off. I would massage and teach yoga to guests. Leaving the Bahamas I went backpacking for 6 months around South East Asia and India, also going to school in ITM in Chang Mai, Thailand for my Thai massage.

10 years later and most currently bringing us to Whistler, in which for the first time, I didn’t need to move anymore. I found my place, my people, and my home. Knowing I would stay in Canada I decided to finally get my RMT, which I just graduated, and can’t wait to get more exposure to athletes and people that want to enjoy the lifestyle here. Life is good and I am grateful.
